About the Artist:
John Singer Sargent (1856–1925) was an American painter celebrated for his technical brilliance and cosmopolitan career. Renowned as the preeminent portraitist of his generation, he also produced an extraordinary body of watercolors that captured landscapes, architecture, and light with unmatched vitality. His Venetian works in particular reveal his fascination with the interplay of water, atmosphere, and monumental architecture.

About the Artwork:
Painted between 1904 and 1907, The Salute, Venice depicts the iconic Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute rising above the shimmering waters of the Grand Canal. Rendered in watercolor with luminous, fluid strokes, Sargent captures the city’s essence—not in rigid architectural detail but in the evanescent play of light and reflection. The scene vibrates with immediacy, embodying the grandeur of Venice while also preserving its fleeting, dreamlike quality.

Why We Selected It:
We chose this work because it represents Venice at its most timeless and atmospheric. Sargent’s watercolor conveys both architectural majesty and poetic mood, making it a piece that brings elegance and serenity into any setting. Perfect for collectors and design spaces alike, The Salute, Venice embodies the union of history, artistry, and the eternal charm of one of the world’s most celebrated cities.
