About the Artist
Ohara Koson was a Japanese artist of the shin-hanga (“new prints”) movement, known for his exquisite woodblock prints of birds, flowers, and landscapes. Active during the early 20th century, Koson bridged traditional ukiyo-e techniques with modern sensibilities, creating works admired both in Japan and internationally. His prints are celebrated for their elegance, refined detail, and poetic atmosphere.
About This Artwork
This print captures the delicate beauty of cherry blossoms illuminated by the glow of a full moon. With subtle gradations of light and shadow, Koson transforms a fleeting spring moment into a timeless scene. The petals shimmer against the night sky, evoking themes of impermanence, renewal, and the quiet power of nature.
